This week, we got to talk with mastering engineer Troy Glessner from Spectre Mastering.
While Troy has recorded, mixed and produced records for over two decades in the Northwest, he is probably most known as one of the most highly sough after mastering engineers in metal. His mastering clients include Devin Townshend, August Burns Red, Living Sacrifice, Underoath, and Demon Hunter.
Troy is known for his meticulous obsession to detail and ability to craft batches of mixes into a coherent album. We talked about gear and workflow, but really got into what a mastering engineer is listening for when he first hears a mix and how that process has changed in the modern digital era.
