By day, Mike Mowery is the CEO of Outerloop Management (whose clients include Periphery, Silverstein, and Refused) and Outerloop Records (whose roster include Ice Nine Kills, Youth In Revolt, and more). But if you were around in the 90s, you might know him as Mike Phyte, the hardcore kid who put out records by bands like Botch, Endeavor and Champion, and a member of the band Good Clean Fun.
Good Clean Fun live set from the late 90s– you can hear Mike talking about going to the doctor in the beginning of this
We caught up with Mike to talk about his journey from hardcore kid to business owner, how he deals with the day to day challenges of managing a huge roster of active bands, why someone as busy as Mike would ever want to start a label, and of course some stories about old hardcore bands.
