What Makes You a Photographer?

Baxter

You have a camera, but does that make you a photographer? An artist? According to award-winning photographer and editor Aaron Nace, yes.

When asked about the definition of a photographer in a recent interview, Aaron turned the table and asked the interviewee, “If a child puts a stick in a paint bucket and wiggles the stick over a piece of paper, are they a painter? What about if an adult did the same thing? What if that person is Jackson Pollock?”

Aaron brings up a great point — whether you are an amateur or a professional photographer, you have the capability of capturing something timeless through your camera lens. Sure, some people are more creative and artistic than others, but no one lives a life absent of either. “There is a part of human nature that wants to capture something and make it last forever,” Aaron added.
