Ever wonder what’s in Chase’s bag when he heads out on location? Hint: Lots of batteries and lens cleaners. But he’s also got his favorite go-to lenses, audio equipment (gotta have those “dead kittens”), and filters.
When it comes to choosing what to bring on your next shoot, think of yourself as Goldilocks (just go with it): You don’t want to bring too much, but you also don’t want to show up unprepared. Finding just the right amount of gear is key to both your sanity and the quality of your work.
Here are some of Chase’s top tips for smart packing:
Label everything: You already know that time is of the essence when you’re on location, so why would you waste precious minutes digging? Keep everything in the same place and label everything. Organization matters!
Juice up: Battery failure can shut down an entire operation; Make sure your batteries (yes, plural) are charged and ready to roll. Even cameras like the D4, which has a great battery life, can leave you in the lurch if you’re not well-stocked.
Stay nimble: Light and fast is the name of the game, even when shooting video. If your shoot doesn’t need to look highly-produced, stick with basic workhorses like the Canon 5D mk iii and the 24-105mm f/4 L IS.
